In March 2023, Dr. Lodge took part in a mission at Guayaquil, Ecuador, to the Hospital del Niño Dr. Francisco de Icaza Bustamante. The mission was arranged by Children’s Lifeline International and CardioStart International to address deficiencies in both infrastructure and human resources for a full-time pediatric heart surgery program. The team performed surgeries and also provided training to the local healthcare providers, emphasizing capacity building and sustainable care.
